A 69-year-old man in Germany claimed he had received 219 COVID-19 vaccinations, including 8 different formulations, over the past two and half years. So far, 130 of them have been officially confirmed.
After reading newspaper articles about the case, scientists at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg wondered if the man’s “hypervaccination” regime had impacted his immune system. Patients with chronic infections like HIV and hepatitis C, which constantly stimulate the immune system, often weaken the immune response over time. Therefore, the researchers initially assumed that exposure to such excessive amounts of SARS-CoV-2 antigens would harm the man’s immune system. However, a battery of tests revealed that his antiody and T-cell levels were much higher than individuals who had received the recommended number of COVID-19 vaccines.
Although the man has never been infected with SARS-CoV-2, the scientists did not endorse hypervaccination as a strategy to enhance adaptive immunity.
