Ristocetin Induced Platelet Aggregation (RIPA)

This test evaluates ristocetin induced aggregation of the patient’s platelet rich plasma and is less sensitive and specific than the ristocetin cofactor assay. Platelet aggregation to ristocetin is usually decreased, but may be normal in mild von Willebrand’s disease (VWD). In Type IIB VWD, platelets are hyper-responsive to ristocetin; platelets aggregate in response to an abnormally low concentration of agonist.

See von Willebrand’s Disease Screening Panel.
